More children are now able to start their day with a nutritious breakfast, thanks to Breakfast Club of Canada and TransCanada Corporation.
The non-profit organization and energy infrastructure leader joined together to launch a breakfast program at Evelyn Dickson Elementary School in Vanderhoof, B.C., on January 13.
Breakfast Club of Canada believes that all children should start their day with a healthy breakfast. TransCanada’s generous investment has enabled the organization to launch its breakfast program at Evelyn Dickson Elementary and three other schools in northern British Columbia: Port Edward Elementary in Port Edward, Thornhill Primary in Terrace and Ron Brent Elementary in Prince George.
“TransCanada has been engaging with communities in northern British Columbia for the past two years about our proposed pipeline projects and has heard consistently, that education and literacy are of primary importance in this region,” says Kiel Giddens, Community Relations, Coastal GasLink project at TransCanada. “At TransCanada we strive to demonstrate our commitment to being a good neighbour and a dependable and trusted community partner. We make a point of listening to our neighbours and we support organizations and initiatives that bring communities together, develop leadership and support families.”
“We are thrilled to be able to launch this program at Evelyn Dickson Elementary,” says Josee Desjardins, Senior Director Western Canada, Breakfast Club of Canada. “Because of TransCanada’s commitment, the Club is able to open four new breakfast programs this year in Northern BC and we cannot thank them enough for their generous support.”
TransCanada’s partnership with Breakfast Club of Canada is one of many programs within its Education Legacy Program for northern B.C., as the company moves forward with $12-billion in proposed pipeline projects to support B.C.’s emerging liquified natural gas (LNG) industry. The Education Legacy Program seeks opportunities to build long-term community capacity through educational initiatives.
