The Coastal GasLink pipeline project is committed to safely building and operating our natural gas pipeline — from design to construction and from operation to maintenance.
We are a wholly-owned subsidiary of TransCanada Pipelines Limited, a company that has been operating pipelines in western Canada for 60 years.
Built to last
The proposed pipeline will be buried underground for approximately 670 kilometres, except at valve sites, compressor stations and limited areas of special design to mitigate identified hazards.
The pipe is built of high-quality steel and is thicker in locations where it passes under bodies of water or roads, or close to highly populated areas.
To protect against corrosion, the external surface of the pipe is coated. Welds are scanned visually and with ultrasound technology to test their integrity. Water under high pressure is then injected through the pipe to ensure the pipe is leak free.
