For many, the stress of the pandemic has taken its toll. For some, it has made access to necessities like food and housing even more challenging. Coastal GasLink wanted to find an impactful way to help those most in need; that’s where United Way of Northern British Columbia (UWNBC) stepped in to support. UWNBC has a legacy of supporting those most in need in Northern B.C., making them the perfect fit to help Coastal GasLink give back to the communities where we operate.
At Coastal GasLink our top priority is the safety of our workforce, contractors, and the Indigenous and non-Indigenous community members. Our project is fully permitted and has unprecedented support and agreements with all 20 elected Indigenous groups across the 670 km route.
Coastal GasLink is increasingly concerned about the safety of our workforce and the public following an escalation in unlawful and dangerous activities by opponents that have put people, property, and the environment at risk.
Just over two years ago – September 3, 2019 to be exact – clearing, the first stage of pipeline construction began on Section 1. Today, Section 1 has leapfrogged in construction with pipeline installation almost complete, including pressure hydrotesting on completed pipe installation and reclamation efforts underway where testing has passed inspection.
Following years of significant construction milestones, we have now completed more than 50 per cent of the project, as we work towards our target completion date in 2023.
