An investment of $50,000 towards a new Indoor Aquatic Centre in Vanderhoof will help to meet the needs of residents for the next 50 plus years.

“We’re pleased to be able to invest in this important leisure and recreation facility, that will support Vanderhoof’s healthy, active community,” said Greg Cano, Director, Project Planning and Execution, Coastal GasLink Pipeline Project.

The Aquatic Centre includes a 25-meter pool that will be used for swimming lessons, recreation swimming, and fitness classes; a warm water leisure pool; a whirlpool; and universal dressing rooms. The project is supported by a number of community partners, including the District of Vanderhoof, Regional District of Bulkley Nechako, and the Vanderhoof Aquatic Centre Society.

“Our community has always sensed that an aquatic centre would be great for attracting new families to our region. This recreation facility will be an asset for youth, seniors and families,” said Vanderhoof Mayor Gerry Thiessen. “This support from Coastal GasLink will go a long way, in not only allowing us to realize our vision but will leave a legacy for generations to come.”

The Centre will serve the entire region, from Fraser Lake to Fort St. James, and the rural areas in between.
