From the start of the project route in the Dawson Creek area to Kitimat, British Columbia 670 kilometres away, Coastal GasLink is committed to giving back to the communities where we operate. Whether that is filling backpacks to help end childhood hunger or saving animals through bottle donations, Coastal GasLink makes it a priority to give back. Recently, our team at the Wilde Lake Compressor Station along with our Prime Contractor Aecon Group Inc. raised more than $10,000 in a 50-50 draw. Part of the proceeds from the draw were donated to Nawican Friendship Centre located in Dawson Creek.
The organizations were suggested by on-site workers during their daily tailgate meeting, discussing ideas for giving back to the community. The Nawican Friendship Centre provides counselling, information, guidance, and recreational and educational programming to promote friendship and understanding for those living and working in the South Peace River District.
For Wilde Lake Compressor Station Construction Manager Mark Oliphant, the decision to donate to Nawican Friendship Centre was reinforced when a team member shared their personal experience working with the organization.
“I was approached by a valuable member of the Wilde Lake Team who informed me that when he was in need, and trying to get into the workforce, Nawican had assisted him in purchasing a pair of work boots and provided gas money so that he could get to a new job opportunity. This personal story, and others like it, reinforced the decision,” shares Mark.
Giving back to the communities where we live and work is in our nature. In 2021 alone, we provided over $1.6 million dollars to communities through our community giving program Build Strong, in addition to employee and Prime Contractor donations.
