Over the years, the Connector newsletter has been a way for us to share the exciting milestones and events happening in your communities. With the recent mechanical completion of Coastal GasLink, this edition of the Connector will highlight you – the Indigenous and local community members whose support has left an incredible impact on this project and the future of energy in Canada. Read personal perspectives from members of our workforce as they reflect back over their time working on Coastal GasLink and see highlights from community events, hosted in partnership with our prime contractors last fall.
Meet Natasha
She's the Manager of Coastal GasLink's Public Affairs team at TC Energy.
As she reflects on her experience with Coastal GasLink, she says that it's not just one moment or milestone that made this project successful. It's the human impact, how people came together, supported each other, and welcomed us into their communities.
How together, Coastal GasLink, contractors and the workforce delivered real-life positive impacts. From workers fundraising in communities to investments in skills training and community infrastructure, we've created tangible benefits that will last for decades. But it's about more than just the benefits; it's about the people; the smiling faces and the friendships we've built that will last a lifetime.
Meet Levi
For Levi, a proud member of Lheidli T'enneh First Nation, Coastal GasLink was more than just a job – it was a journey that provided an opportunity for him to uncover and pursue his passions, cementing his career and future.
Levi's journey with Coastal GasLink began after high school when he worked as a general laborer for a construction company involved in the project. Motivated by his passion for learning and construction, he pursued skills training in heavy construction, Occupational Health and Safety, and Environmental Monitoring.
Eager to learn and grow, he later attended Pipeline Inspector Training through the Coastal GasLink Indigenous Education and Training program, further sharpening his skills and connections. This training led to an ongoing role in Operations on Coastal GasLink. Levi is excited to start a new career chapter with TC Energy, embracing his dreams and goals after nine incredible years with Coastal GasLink.
Meet Trevor
He's a business analyst for the Coastal GasLink CWAA and CMCL programs.
Since joining the Construction Monitor and Community Liaison (CMCL) and Community Workforce Accommodation Advisor (CWAA) programs a year and a half ago, he says he's inspired by the team's connection with each other, their respect for Indigenous peoples' traditional way of living, and their care for the mental and physical health of lodge coworkers.
As we go in to 2024, he hopes programs like these will be standard practice for all industry, in Canada and across the world.
