January construction update

Posted by Coastal GasLink

Beginning the year with almost 60% of the project completed

As construction begins to ramp-up after the holiday break, we look forward to progressing to the final stages of construction by the end of 2022. This year, we start construction with almost 60% of the project completed, with Sections 1 and 4 nearing 100% completion. Most recently, we celebrated the safe completion of the Salmon River DPI water crossing with zero safety incidents. In the same construction section, we also saw the demobilization of the Vanderhoof Lodge, which at its peak housed over 869 workers. On the west side of the project in Section 8 East, clearing of the project route has been completed as we move closer to completing clearing across the project.

Protecting our communities by limiting the spread

Nothing matters more to us than the health and safety of our workers, their families and local communities. With the arrival of the Omicron variant, the continuously evolving COVID-19 pandemic will continue to create challenges across the province, including on our project and within local communities. Working with local health authorities and our medical services providers, we are implementing robust and proven health and safety protocols in accordance with public health guidelines. These measures include testing for all workers arriving to site and daily self-assessments. As the situation with Omicron evolves, we will work with our health and safety teams, as well as medical experts, to evaluate and improve our plans, if necessary.

We recently celebrated the completion of the cable crane installation at Cable Crane Hill in Section 8 West, a huge accomplishment and engineering feat. Cable Crane Hill will house a crane system that will transport materials from kilometre post 623.500 to 625.050 along the project route, which sees a drastic elevation gain of 660 metres. In preparation for the cable crane system an access road was installed last summer, establishing critical access for construction nine days ahead of schedule. This spring we look forward to finishing trenching along Cable Crane Hill, the second stage of pipeline construction, and beginning the installation of pipe later this year.
